Travel diary of an idiot: Lachung to Yumthang Valley/DAY-3

We started in early morning from lachung for our final destination Yumthang Valley.These areas are highly militarized and my driver made all the permits and necessary arrangement. After few km of journey we could see clear view of Kanchenjunga Mountain.

First time we saw YAK, There were many yaks grazing near the roadside.

Snowfall started after sometime and it made our onward journey memorable. My wife was very happy as it was her first time to experience snowfall.
We passed through Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, it has more than forty species of rhododendron tree, which is going extinct. There was no flower during my visit . I was told by my driver that during bloom whole area is covered with colourful flowers.

After the sanctuary I could not see any colour in the surroundings except white ice and greenish black trees. There were no sign of any animal or sign of human settlement. Being off season for tourist, I saw only couple of other vehicle on our way.

Unfortunately there was heavy snow on the road and our driver stopped the vehicle. My driver tried his best to go through heavy snow as we were only few Kilometer away from our destination. After many unsuccessful attempt we decided to abandon our plan to the valley. We spent almost an hour in the middle of beautiful scenery before coming back to lachung.
